Link building practices are going to become increasingly more important as they begin to play a larger role in search engine algorithms.  To complicate this process, not all links are going to be treated with the same weight. It has been proven that links that end with .edu and .gov are the golden tickets.  As of right now, these links are highly valuable because they generally receive high page rank (five or above).

But wait, you’re not involved in educational or government.  Does this mean that your website is going to be negatively affected?  Not necessarily.  We have come up with four Surefire techniques to incorporate .edu links into your website.

1.       Job Postings.  You can easily stress your company’s career opportunities to local colleges and universities.  Just keep in mind you may need to make sure you’re using the correct verbiage for the academic world.

2.       Offer a scholarship.  By creating a scholarship you will appeal to a very large audience.  Academic departments may even promote the link as part of their own website, giving your company even more visibility.

3.       Promote your achievements.  Make sure that you and your employee’s alumni associations are aware of all the good work your company is doing.  Often these alumni associations will be sure to post these links on their own websites, or link them to individual program pages.  A huge bump in terms of link building.

4.       Reach out to old professors.  Many of them may be writing for scholarly journals or have their own blogs!  If they are aware that one of their favorite students is achieving greatness, they’ll be sure to promote their former pupil in one of their various media outlets.

At first it may seem tough to achieve these types of links, but with some clever thinking it is possible.  And the payoff is huge. Local marketing experts agree that most sites that incorporate one or more of these links will see a very positive impact to their website ranking and authority in less than two months!!
